I try to visit local yarn stores when I travel, and I often have trouble finding out much about them before I plan my trip. I thought I’d contribute back to the community by sharing some of the great stores I’ve been able to go to!
I took a short trip to Redding, CA, for Presidents’ Day weekend, and I was finally able to go to the local yarn store, Ewe-Baa Street Yarns. I always enjoy going to yarn stores when I travel, but I was particularly happy to have been able to visit this one. Although it was in a fairly empty part of town, the store was big, welcoming, and full of people.
The shop had tons of space for sitting around to knit as well as space for spinning and weaving.
In addition to having one of the biggest selections of Shibui I’d ever seen…
And a colorful display of buttons…
They also had a bunch of smaller name boutique and specialty yarns. I ended up getting 3 skeins of this beautifully hand-dyed yarn from Hanalei in Kauai, Hawaii. Ewe-Baa is one of only 4 retailers of Hanalei (including the location in Kauai, Hanalei Strings, which looks like a super awesome store that I now want to visit!). The yarn I got is 80%/20% Superwash Merino/Silk in variegated Pele. The colors are so rich! I can’t wait to use it!
What should I make with it? I’m thinking a simple pullover. It could be my first real sweater!
