Reisensburg Coat

Happy New Year’s Eve! I’m in Boston, and it’s currently 8ºF outside, so…. I’m not going to be going out. I’m staying in and eating fun snacks and watching TV and working on my Elibelinde sweater – I’ve finished the body, and I’m on the second sleeve!

But I thought I’d take a break to write a quick post about a project I finished a few years ago and got finished object photos of a few months ago. It’s the Alpine Cardi Wrap pattern by Daniela Nii from Interweave Crochet Fall 2014.

I used Berroco Ultra Alpaca yarn in the Charcoal, Barley, and Buckwheat colorways. The jacket is crocheted, so it’s pretty thick – and even more so because of all of the front post stitches. I used 3-4 skeins of each colorway!

Right after I (finally) finished this project, I didn’t love it. It’s a little oversized and bulky. But, after taking it out of my closet again recently, I totally love it. I’m not sure if styles have changed or if it just grew on me with time, but I definitely wear it now!

I made this coat before I learned to knit, And I probably would never crochet this type of thing again. It just takes a ton of yarn, and it’s definitely more of a coat than a cardigan. But I’m really proud that I made it. It’s very substantial and warm, and I think it looks pretty interesting and unique.

I’m hoping to make a knit cardigan this year. Something softer and floppier that I can wear at my desk at work when it’s chilly in my office. Maybe hooded… What are your 2018 knitting goals?
