It finally stopped raining in the California bay area this weekend, so I got out to take some pictures of a top I knit last year. It was pretty warm and summery, and I’d been meaning to blog about this piece, so I was very excited. It’s sparkly and delicate, and I love it!
I used this Cancun Boxy Lace Top pattern and Blue Heron Rayon Metallic yarn in Polar Bear. I’m a big fan of this pattern because I learned a lot of different knit lace stitches, and they all work out really well together. It worked up pretty quickly as well.
The top is made in two identical rectangles and sewn together. I think it looks good as a casual beachy top with jeans or shorts, but I also think it could work as a more fancy peace over a little black dress.
It’s a little early (I’m aware), but… what ideas do you have for summer knit/crochet projects??

I usually shop at Uncommon Threads in Los Altos – I love their Tuesday evening knit night! I also go to Imagiknit when I’m in San Francisco, but I’ve never been to Fengari or Atelier. Do you go to any knit nights in the area?

HI – just saw your question. No knit nights – various reasons…work and/or husband. what are you working on currently? I just finshed the glorious cable & coin lace wrap (rav) and got it off the blocking board finally. do you block your swatches?

I’m finishing up the Vaara top from Pom Pom magazine and also working on the Oblagon shawl (Ravelry). I looked up the cable & coin lace wrap, and it looks so beautiful! I block swatches for garments but not usually for shawls.

Imagiknit in SF is collecting yarn, needles, hooks, etc. for fire survivors who not only lost everything but of course, their stashes too. Breaks my heart. I brought three huge plastic bags filled with yarns I know I’ll never knit but I’ve held onto because they are valuable. It felt so good. They are at 18th/Sanchez. Cutoff is tomorrow night around 7 when they close. Thought you might want to know. Let your yarn community know please. sending woolly hugs, Renna

I’m trying to make this top, cancun lace top. I cast on 98 stitches, knit few rows and can tell will be huge. I’m fairly new to knitting. Should I size down needles a couple sizes? Help !
